It Does! And when it does, it can be a challenge. This is one of MY biggest challenges as a Travel Advisor, especially at this particular point in time. No matter how well planned or extravagant your trip may be, there are many things totally outside of your control that could change your dream vacation into a nightmare. Many travelers feel that once they are committed to a trip, they are going on it… NO MATTER WHAT! Absolutely no one wants to think of anything happening to delay or prevent their vacation. When you are planning a well earned and anticipated dream vacation, it just doesn’t seem necessary to add an extra $100 + to the total cost. Let’s face it, travel insurance is not sexy. However, it is an important addition that I strongly encourage my clients to purchase. In the overall scheme of things, the cost of travel protection is a small drop in the bucket and worth every penny. I have learned this personally as well as through the experiences of my clients. So, you’re not elderly…you’re healthy! You have already confirmed with your boss 3 times that you can have the time off. Everything is perfectly planned. Nothing is going to keep you from going on your vacation and nothing is going to go wrong while you are there… right?!?! Things happen even with the best laid plans - believe me I know! A few years ago, our family went on an amazing trip to Austria. I spent a semester in college in Salzburg and was SO excited to show them Vienna and Salzburg. Well... We got to the airport and our flight was cancelled at the last minute and they couldn't get us on a new flight for 2 days! This totally blew our 3 day plans in Vienna, we ended up only having an afternoon there scrambling to see all we could. Our hotel in Salzburg was under construction with a banging wake up call each morning around 7am. On the way home, our flight was changed from 1 stop to 2 stops and at the 2nd stop in Zurich, my daughter lost her passport. My husband and youngest daughter continued on the flight home. After running all over the airport, having a million different people checking our last plane, pulling out all the contents of our suitcases in the middle of the airport, a call to the embassy, a trip to the police department for a report, a night at the airport, a thorough search and a few tears - we were lucky to fly home the next day. Not quite the overall experience I was hoping for! What IF:
